The Boat Geeks #44 - "Sailor Barry" Collins, popular YouTuber and Sail Cargo entrepreneur.
Barry has long been harboring dreams to own a proper old Danish work boat and operate a viable sail cargo company. He's on the verge on accomplishing both!
Recorded aboard their floating studio in Port Townsend, WA, in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, Daeron and Darren take a deep dive into the world of boating.
In this episode: Barry tells the two Ds where his love of boats originated, and how that developed into "an obsession" for old Danish sailing vessels. We find out about his upbringing in what he refers to as a cult, his subsequent freedom and reignited love for boats. We also hear about his harrowing rescue off the mouth of the Columbia River (thank you, United States Coast Guard!), and the "AH HA!" moment that led to his purchasing of Lady Hawk, a 1934 85' Danish gaff-rigged ketch. With a cargo capacity in excess of 20 tons, Lady Hawk will transport small batch tequila from Mexico to Canada for his Mariner's Spirit company!
